Scalability Study for Deploying VMware View on Cisco UCS and EMC V-Max Systems


The document reports the results of a study evaluating the scalability of the VMware View virtual desktop environment on a Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) connected to EMC Symmetrix V-Max storage arrays via a Cisco MDS director class SAN Switch. They also provide guidance and sizing recommendation for customer deployments for Cisco UCS Server, EMC V-Max Storage, and VMware View.

This study accomplished the objective of scaling a large number of desktops, 160 in all, on a single UCS blade server connected to a V-Max storage system.

A fully-populated UCS chassis with eight half slot UCS blades and with 96 GB of memory can run up to 1,280 desktops (160 desktops per blade).
